Creative Milwaukee at Work Conference

Hosted by MIAD | Presented by Creative Alliance Milwaukee

Milwaukee’s Creative Community Convenes, Connects, Collaborates

Thanks for joining Creative Alliance Milwaukee for the region’s first annual one-day conference focused on showcasing the region’s abundant creative talent. The Creative Milwaukee at Work Conference provided creative networking opportunities and strengthened capacities for creative/design thinking and problem solving. Among our breakout sessions, we were proud to feature some of Milwaukee’s finest creative, business, and educational leaders. Presenters shared techniques and strategies to inspire personal and professional goals by immersing participants in collaborative learning experiences.

Join us again next year for Creative Milwaukee at Work 2013! It’s going to be bigger and better– you won’t want to miss out.

Stay tuned for updates, including a recap video of both the conference and the Creative Salon discussion.

Thanks again for helping make Creative Milwaukee at Work a success! We couldn’t have done it without our wonderful sponsors, speakers, volunteers, committee members, and of course, our dynamic and creative attendees! Thank you!

A.) There’s no such thing as “1st annual”
B.) Sounds rather vague, don’t quite understand exactly what’ll actually be happening that day
C.) Not quite sure what your organization really does actually…can you explain in short concrete terms perhaps?
D.) There are a small handful of groups actually doing the work in which it appears you speak of, MadeinMilwaukee being a standout that comes to mind. It may be in your(as well as your audience’s) best interest to invite an org like that to come speak/discuss.

Thanks for your comment- we’re happy to address some of the questions you have regarding Creative Alliance Milwaukee and the Creative Milwaukee at Work conference in September.

A.) There’s no such thing as “1st annual”

By “first annual,” we mean that the conference is the first of what is planned to be an annual series of events. Perhaps “inaugural” is a more accurate term– it’s true that “annual” implies repetition. What can we say, we’re excited! And we’re definitely anticipating holding a conference each year in the future.

B.) Sounds rather vague, don’t quite understand exactly what’ll actually be happening that day

We decided that it’s important to promote and highlight the abundance of creative talent in the region– Milwaukee is bursting with creative energy yet many people don’t fully realize what the area has to offer. Creative Milwaukee at Work will be a celebration of Milwaukee creativity as well as a showcase of ideas, a platform for discussion, and a way to bring together the creative community. As you know, this creativity is quite diverse, and so we’ve purposefully selected speakers to reflect that diversity. We have speakers like James Lohmiller, Creative Director and Co-Founder of HollenWolff where he designs cutting edge cuff links with a Milwaukee edge, and Steven White, Composer and Sound Designer who will be discussing Working in the Cloud. Other speakers are artists, designers, educators, architects, and business leaders– and they all have local Milwaukee ties.

So, if you don’t understand exactly what will go on at the conference, we’ve done something right! There’s going to be a lot going on and a very colorful range of speakers and activities. But, every attendee will have the opportunity to learn, network, collaborate, brainstorm, and be inspired.

C.) Not quite sure what your organization really does actually…can you explain in short concrete terms perhaps?

There is no other organization we know of that focuses on economic development of the entire creative industry in Milwaukee– design, media and film, performing arts, culture and heritage, and visual arts and crafts. Visit our website for more information about each of the specific segments we strive to connect, promote and grow.

D.) There are a small handful of groups actually doing the work in which it appears you speak of, MadeinMilwaukee being a standout that comes to mind. It may be in your(as well as your audience’s) best interest to invite an org like that to come speak/discuss.

We’d love to partner with groups that promote the arts and cultural organizations in town, such as Made in Milwaukee, and we invite you to have them contact us. There are many organizations and arts groups that focus on promoting and growing specific segments of Milwaukee’s creative industries and do great work within the creative community, but none are as focused as we are on the relationship between creativity and economic development. We have worked closely with several of these groups and continue to collaborate whenever possible. For example, we are working with the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network (MARN) on a benefit event at the Marcus Center for the Center St. Artists Fund.

Creative Alliance Milwaukee is a non-profit economic development organization that works to connect, enhance, and support the creative industries in the seven-county Greater Milwaukee region. Our mission is to drive economic prosperity as a catalytic hub, growing our creative industries by leveraging applied creativity in education, commerce, and culture. We believe that connecting creatives and commerce is beneficial to the local economy, individual artists and creatives, and local businesses.

Please feel free to contact us with additional comments or questions. We always encourage dialogue and discussion between our organization and the greater community that we serve. Thanks again for asking!
